Thread 13: Morning Television
Today, I am thinking about how television has been such a part of our lives.
Most of the time, I turn it on first thing. Today, I didn't.
I started the day with coffee and by feeding some cats.
I left the television alone.
Right now, I do have "America" on. This program makes me curious about Brazil and
speaking in Portuguese. (So far, I have found recipes in the language. That is cool.
You can have a choice of reading the recipes in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. That is neat, because I can look at a word or phrase in multiple languages.) So I am trying to watch the mouths and see that the mouths are not moving in time to the Spanish except for in certain words. This show has over a million actors. When I first started to watch, I didn't know who the main protagonists were. Over time, they dedicated more scenes to the major ones, and they gave them the musical intro whenever they would enter. So that helped. I have always liked minor characters, even in books.
Brazilians are fascinating to watch. I can almost picture the Olympics there already.
I tried to find songs on the internet I like. I watched a few songs in Punjabi. I didn't understand a word. I saw clips of Ash's wedding and the YT clip on the designer who designed her dress. It was an interview. I think I will post that on
a fashion blog at some point. Or I may also have to visit and be around Asian language sectors once more.
I am hearing "chama" or that sound a lot on the show I am watching, especially in the songs. Those, they leave alone without dubbing over them. I think they used that in some Venezuelan programs at times. I think it must mean money. Or I could be wrong...?!
The language on television is fascinating to me. I wonder if it all translates like that in the ordinary and every day worlds also.
I like that programs don't lie about stressful conditions and tribulations one encounters as life goes on. Although melodramatic at times, the shows for the most part do tell people, watch out for this, watch out for that, if you do this, this could happen.
I always looked at television that way. I also tried to keep it safe and intact from other situations in the world until I could formulate some sort of connection.
Most of the time, I think of allegories or classical allusions. Those always enter a language. At least it did in the past. The Greek/Roman myths and allusions are still with us in the language. I wonder if television prorams coin words and phrases over time with the frequency of hearing them over time. The writers must try to project reality in at least the dialogue, if not the plots or themes of the day.
I could probably study some portion of this some time. I like theme songs, the artists, the way the lyrics sound in selected tunes. I still recall the Venezuelan hit, "Cristal" and its theme song, "Mi Vida Eres Tu." Now I am trying to sing the
"Corazon Salvaje" theme by Chayanne. This program is from Mexico, I believe.
It is broadcast every ten years to different audiences. So far, I have only seen two, well, one I am currently viewing, whenever I can. They have to stick to the period in time, so the dialogue will be both contemporary and contain words from the
past also. This is great to compare and contrast and improve my knowledge of Spanish and even other languages.
I do think the act of viewing television can entirely be an activity of leisure or become something else entirely. I am glad I can choose what I can do with my viewing, for now...
I have never taken television for granted. I think this is, because I have lived at least eight or nine years without exposure to television. So when my family first got a television, it was like a new world or a crystal ball, or something magical that came into my life. I think it added meaning to things I was searching for at the time. Answers, clues to life, review of the day, and more!
I do have to turn it off, to go back to my first love, "print!"
Every once in a while...but now there's the internet for that!
For good or bad...?!

I hope JB Records has some of the sound tracks for these programs.
That would be like having a part of the season, even if you
never get a hold of transcripts!

Lunch instead of breakfast or a fusion of the two.
Why does coffee fill one up so much?
